Rehabilitation made accessible

The Challenge

Designing an interface for low-literate users

The Sugar Rush team set about designing and developing a mobile App for the Northern Ireland Justice Sector and primarily for The Probation Board of Northern Ireland (PBNI) to support service users entering their probation period. Delivering a unique UI Design, we considered how some users may be effected with low literacy. We also considered high levels of data protection and security that would need factored in, all while limiting any potential barriers to entry for onboarding the users.

The Approach

Facilitating Rehabilitation with Readily Accessible Support

The Mobile App V2 created massive interest throughout the UK & European Justice sector. Working closely with the PBNI, our development team created a number of unique functions such as a Mood Journal section, Alcohol Intake Tracker, Appointment Reminders for Community and Mentor meetings as well as lots of critical resource digitally accessible for users integrating into society.

Track daily thoughts and experiences

The Mobile App V2 created massive interest throughout the UK & European Justice sector. Working closely with the PBNI, our development team created a number of unique functions such as a Mood Journal section, Alcohol Intake Tracker, Appointment Reminders for Community and Mentor meetings as well as lots of critical resource digitally accessible for users integrating back into society.

Book. Done. Easy.

As appointments seem to be one of the major issues of communication between users and their Social Workers, we developed an appointment booking function within the Mobile App to help avoid confusion or missed meet ups.

Alcohol tracker

Data driven feedback produced one of the most popular functions within the mobile App. The Alcohol Tracker function allows users to enter their intake daily or weekly, while also allowing for tolerance based on their age, height and weight. We’re very proud of this feature, as we feel this gives the most accurate results on the market.

Well-crafted dashboard

We believe this is essential for most mobile App projects, we delivered a custom dashboard for the PBNI Admin team to have better control of content pushed live to the Mobile App. Sections such as Latest News, Up-To-Date contacts and digital resource. PBNI will also have access to analytics and stats for Users.

2x
preventive suicides

The PBNI App has delivered many levels of success across the Justice sector, including the prevention of two suicides.

The Result

Saving Lives

Since its launch, the Mobile App has prevented a number of suicides and the users feel they have a digital tool they can trust for information and support as they progress through their probation journey. The success from the Mobile App also extends beyond the Northern Ireland Justice Sector with massive interest throughout the UK, Ireland & Central Europe. Its a Mobile App the entire Sugar Rush team are proud to have worked on
